How time flies…(not to mention bees)

So, here we are at midsummer and at long last the weather is appropriate to the time of year. In the last few days we’ve finally got warmth enough for the nectar to flow and end a severe ‘June gap’.

Our weekly mentoring sessions on the branch hives, for beginners and novices, continue. These pictures from this morning – when we were all out early to avoid melting inside beesuits later on – has Steve and David (mentors) showing some of our less experienced beekeeping colleagues what to look for when inspecting to see if a new queen is present and laying.
